As with most things, the idea to take an Alaskan cruise was born from a simple, random conversation. Tiffany said she and Tim wanted to cruise Alaska, but they wanted to do it with Greg and me. The conversation continued and suddenly I heard Greg saying that maybe we could do it as a family cruise. The wheels in my head started spinning, so I began looking into what it would cost.
Later that afternoon, I asked Greg if he had been serious and if he meant we would pay for everyone to go on the cruise. l told him the results of my research and we both agreed that the time was right, the place was right and it was worth the expense. That’s when I began talking to all of you, to see who would want to come with us to Alaska.
The Limited Details
Why, 2029? The main reason is because we already have a cruise planned for 2027, and for our 10th anniversary in 2028, we want to go to Italy. The other advantage to 2029 is that it gives everyone time to save for the trip.
Why August or September? That’s the best time of year to see the Northern Lights. An advantage to August is that the salmon are spawning and swimming upstream through Ketchikan.
What’s included? If we are actually able to do this, Greg and I will pay for each couple to have an inside cabin including taxes, fees, and gratuities. If you want an Ocean View or Balcony, you will have to pay the difference. You will also have to get yourself to Seattle the day before the cruise leaves. That means airfare or gas and hotels to drive up. You will also need to pay for any beverage packages, specialty restaurants, or excursions you want to take.
How much does it cost to upgrade my cabin? Looking at current pricing, upgrading from an inside cabin to an Ocean View could cost $150-$300 per person. Upgrading to a balcony could cost &750-$1,000 per person. We have no way of knowing how much prices will change between now and when we book our trip, but here’s some September, 2027 pricing.
